OLIVIA BRAAF

Olivia is an experienced environmental professional with a career spanning over 17 years. She has worked on projects for a wide range of clients in the mining, property development, waste management, infrastructure, energy and industrial sectors. This exposure has proven invaluable in the input she provides to clients at all stages of a project from pre-feasibility, to design, statutory approval, commissioning, operation and post implementation. Olivia drives the vision of the business which focusses on Problem Solving through pragmatic, innovative and creative solutions to achieve sustainable development.

Prior to establishing Braaf-SA in 2007, she was employed as a Senior Environmental Practitioner in Cape Town, South Africa. Over the years she has developed extensive experience in various environmental disciplines. Her work experience stretches throughout South Africa and internationally, familiarising her with environmental requirements in different countries. She is very well versed with international finance requirements, like the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the associated Equator Principles. These requirements have been included in several Environmental and Social Impact Assessment processes that she has managed and coordinated. Olivia holds an Honours Degree in Marine Zoology from the University of the Western Cape and has completed numerous other courses such as an ISO 14001 Auditing at SABS and Sustainability Course through the University of Illinois. She is a registered member of the International Association for Impact Assessment which she served as a Board Member in 2007 as well as the Advisory Board of UNISA’s Department of Environmental Sciences.

GARTH ADAMS

Garth joined BraafSA in 2007 and is an experienced environmental Control Officer, Stakeholder Facilitator and Project Coordinator. Garth spent time in Canada and the Seychelles where he assisted in solving complex government and community engagement issues. He manages the public engagement process for several mining right applications in the Western and Northern Cape and was until recently contracted to manage the stakeholder engagement process for the Redevelopment of the Athlone Power Station Precinct in association with WSP, City of Cape Town. In addition he performs the function of Environmental Monitoring for construction, mining and large infrastructure projects. Garth has completed a course in Environmental Monitoring and Enforcement at the Centre for Environmental Management: North-West University, a Project Management Course at Casidra and is a registered member with the International Association for Public Participation SA.
