NOTIFICATION OF PUBLIC PARTICIPATION PROCESS Prospecting Right Application on a portion of Farm 200/5, Kommagas, Northern Cape Province of South Africa DMR Ref.No.: NCS 30/5/1/1/2(12354) PR Notice is hereby given of a public participation process in terms of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations 2014, as amended, promulgated in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (No. 107 of 1998) (NEMA), as amended. Applicant: Hekami Investments (Pty) Ltd Environmental Assessment Practitioner: Braaf Environmental Practitioners SA (Pty) Ltd (BraafSA) Activity: Hekami Investments has submitted an application for a Prospecting Right (diamonds) over a portion of Farm 200/5 which lies about 20km north of Kommagas in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa with the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) in terms of Section 16 of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002 (No. 28 of 2002) (MPRDA), as amended. The proposed prospecting activities would be conducted in a phased approach and would entail: Phase I: Desktop assessment; Phase II: Drilling; Phase III: Bulk sampling; Phase IV: Resource Estimation and decommissioning, closure or apply for Mining Right depending on the feasibility results. Application for Environmental Authorisation, to undertake the following activities in terms of the National Environmental Management, 1998 (Act 107 of 1998) as amended and the EIA Regulations 2014, as amended: Listing Notice 1 (GN No. 327) – 19A, 20, 22; Listing Notice 2 (GN No. 325) – 19; Listing Notice 3 (GN No. 324)-12. The procedures for a Scoping/EIA Process are being followed for this application. Authorisation is further being sought in terms of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 (GN. No. R633) – 15 as well as the National Water Act, 1998 (Activity 21 a and i – to be confirmed by the Department of Water and Sanitation). Opportunity for Public Participation: You and/or your organisation are hereby invited to register as an Interested and Affected Party (I&AP) and comment on the Scoping Report (SR) for the proposed project. The SR will be available (on BraafSA's website and upon request via CD and at the Kommagas Public Library) for a 30-day comment period from 17 April to 21 May 2019.
