Proposed Prospecting Application over a number of farm portions, Pietermaritzburg RD, Kwa-Zulu Natal

Applicant: Momumax (Pty) Ltd is proposing to undertake prospecting activities for Lithium Ore, Industrial Minerals and Dimension Stone. Prospecting activities will be undertaken over a period of 36 months and is for both invasive and non-invasive methods. Invasive methods comprise of trenching/drilling, bulk sampling and sampling storage. Non-invasive methods include desktop research and include detailed geophysical surveys.

Legislation: Notice is hereby given of a Public Participation Process in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998), (NEMA), as amended, and the EIA Regulations 2014. The proposed development triggers activities under Listing Notice 1 (GN. No. R.326) and Listing Notice 2 (GN. No. R.325) –  and as such a Scoping/EIA Process is applicable. Notice is futher given in terms of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 (Act No. 59 of 2008) as the activity will require a waste management license (triggers Category A: Activiity No. 15). Notice is also given in terms of the Mineral and Petroluem Resources Development Act (Act No.  28 of 2002) as the application requires a prospecting right.

Public Participation: Interested and Affected Parties (I&AP's) are hereby invited to participate in the public participation process for this project by providing comment on the EIA/EMP Report, currently available at the Hibberdene Public Library (124 Minerva Crescent) and on the project website: www.braafsa.com (Documents for Comment – Monumax Lithium Mine). Written comments and concerns regarding the project must be submitted to Braaf Environmental Practitioners. To register or submit comments, I&APs should refer to the DMR reference number above, and provide their name, address & contact details (indicating your preferred method of notification) and an indication of any direct business, financial, personal, or other interest which they have in the application to the contact details provided below by 8 February 2018. Correspondence throughout the remainder of the EIA process will only be distributed to registered I&APs.
